Paolo (b. 1995) illustrates both his escape and engagement from the absurdity of daily modern life through his oil paintings. A native of Los Angeles, Paolo witnesses a world of societal and environmental excess, human trauma, and ephemeral mortality through an existenial lens. Inspired by his lifelong interest in the macabre, Paolo’s subjects seek to make peace with their dark realities.
Paolo first took up properly oil painting after graduating university and starting his first office job in late 2017. Since then, he has been religiously experimenting and learning oil painting methods after work. The son of Asian-American immigrants, Paolo arranges his ideas with a primarily Eastern storytelling foundation and classical Western media elements in art.
